Looking for a phone with GPS and Wi-Fi, camera and music player not necessary.?
I need a phone with GPS and Wi-Fi but camera / music player are not necessary at all. Basically the idea is to pay for something that i will use and the problem is that all phones with GPS and Wi-Fi have good cameras and music players making them expensive….
You are correct, you are not going to find a phone with GPS and WiFi.
A lot of the issue has to do with the fact that if a cell phone is going to have WiFi, it means it will have full internet capabilities, and having full internet means it has a decent processor and screen. The addition of the music capabilities adds almost nothing to the cost, and the camera only adds a few bucks and is “expected” by those buying a phone such as that.
Also, the price of the phone is insignificant to the fact that any phone with WiFi, which has a good browser, is also going to require an unlimited data plan from your cellular provider, running an additional $25 to $30 per month.
I suspect that by the end of 2010 you will see some Android phones coming out that will be relatively inexpensive on “pay as you go” plans such as Boost Mobile.
As for an inexpensive phone with good GPS and WiFi look into the Droid Eris from Verizon. At Verizon it’s only $99, but I know in the past Amazon has offered it for as low as $39 (Both prices, of course, are with a 2 year contract)
